How do I register?

You may register online here, or you may visit the Town Clerk's office (City Hall, 149 Church Street) during business hours. Additionally, Vermont has same day voter registration. You may show up to a polling office and vote without registering prior.

Can I vote if I am a student and live in a dorm or student apartment?

Yes! The State of Vermont considers you a resident of Vermont if you live in a dorm or apartment, even if you are a student. You should register to vote using your current dorm or, apartment address as your “principle dwelling.” As long as your “principle dwelling” is in the ward, you are 18 years-old or older, and you are a citizen of the United States, you are eligible to vote in this election.

Do I have to give up my home-state voter registration?

Students who register to vote in Burlington will be deregistered to vote in their previous town or state. However, you can re-register online after March 5, or register in-person this summer or during spring break, and vote in the November presidential election in the state of your choice.
